How would you explain your movements to someone if they asked you about them?
First of all, I’m slightly amused that this is framed as a hypothetical since I get asked about my CMS on a fairly regular basis since people see it in class. At this point I say, “I have a movement disorder. It is similar to a tic disorder, but there are some differences. It is triggered by strong emotion and complex thought. If you have more questions about it, I’m happy to answer them.” Sometimes people have more questions, sometimes they don’t, and the direction that conversation goes from there depends on what questions they have, if any.
