What advice would you give to someone with CMS who is just learning about it?
I have two answers to this, the first for people with CMS who are under the age of 12 or so, and the second to teens and adults.
For children who are just learning about their CMS, I know it can be annoying sometimes, and that if you don't know how to control it yet, it can get really frustrating. I've been there. I hated my CMS when I was younger. But, with time I learned to control it, and it doesn't get in my way anymore. It might seem impossibly far off, but you will get there. And if there are people telling you that your stereotypy is wrong, or being angry that you can't stop, they are wrong. They don't understand how stereotypies work. I know it is easier said than done, but don't worry about what they think. For teens and adults who are just learning that what they've been doing their whole life is called CMS, welcome to the club :). I can't really give you advice since I got diagnosed as a kid, but I know that when I first started finding other adults with CMS and how many experiences we shared, it was really cool. Then again, given that you are here, I guess you are already doing that. |
