Can you control your CMS more now than you could as a kid?
When were you able to start controlling it?
I could always regulate my movements. The main difference between now and when I was a kid is my tolerance for the tension build up I get when I don’t perform my movements. In elementary school, I would always perform my movements whenever I wanted to. If I was asked to stop I could but I wasn’t very happy with it. When I started middle school my mom advised me to keep my movements to myself at home out of fear of possible bullying. It was very hard on me because I would feel great amounts of tension throughout the school day and couldn’t release them right away. In high school, it was comfortable and the tension did not bother me as much. I am currently in college and have noticed that I do not perform my movements nearly as much as I used to. It may be because of the change in the environment or simply because I don’t have as much of an urge to stem as I used to.

I do my movements more in private now than I did as a kid, but I don’t consciously control it. I have no idea why my movements don’t happen in public anymore, they just sort of… don’t. My mom says she thought my movements had stopped completely in middle school, however, because they had become so private at that point.
